Holiday Aftermath – HOW TO REMOVE WINE STAINS, Costa Mesa, CA

Now that the Holidays are upon us, there may be wine stains to remove! Hopefully none of you have to deal with wine stains, but if it happens, we have some tips on how to remove them. Below, we have included some tips on how to remove wine stains from your carpet, upholstery and clothing.

Use HOT Water to Treat Fabrics

Before blotting the stain, stretch the fabric out. If you can, place a bowl underneath the fabric and pour nearly boiling hot water over the stain. In most cases, the stain will disappear right away.

This type of treatment works best on tablecloths and even clothing (which is where wine is usually spilled).

Mix Dish Soap and Hydrogen Peroxide to Treat Cotton

This one works best on cotton clothing. Mix 3 parts HP with 1 part dish soap. Treat the stain and let it sit for a while (roughly 10 minutes). If the stain is still there after such time, treat it again. No need to scrub. Again, wait another 10-15 minutes and your stain should disappear!

Blot Stains: Carpet

If you experience a spill on the carpet, ALWAYS blot the stain first. The longer the stain sits, the harder is will be to remove. Use a towel or paper towel to blot the stain, picking up as much of the liquid as you can. DO NOT RUB THE STAIN. This will only spread it.

Once you have blotted up as much moisture as possible, you will need to mix one-quarter teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with 4 cups of warm water. After you have created your solution, apply a small amount of it on the stain. Again, do not scrub the carpet. Work the solution into the stain using a gentle blotting motion. Use water and a towel or paper towel to remove the rest of the stain.
